Summary: A walk to water’s edge brings out the emotions that had been held captive for so long and sends them crashing together.
a/n: Beware of excessive water metaphors. Also, I need to stop dreaming about the only underage member of SHINee. Just saying.
Key maneuvered himself down the sloping hill, stepping from rock to rock as he made his way toward the water. It wasn’t a day for swimming which was why there was no one else in sight. But despite the chilly wind that nipped at his skin and the overcast weather it was still gorgeous. And the water, though reflecting the grey back from the sky, was beautiful as well. It was so peaceful, hearing only the light waves and his own footsteps. As well as those stepping behind him.
Key turned then, watching as Taemin traipsed down the hill after him, maybe ten meters behind. The younger boy was taking his time, being careful of each large stone he put his weight on next. And since he was looking at his feet, cautious, Key was able to stare at him- watching the way the breeze blew through Taemin’s hair, ruffling it and blowing it into his eyes.
The older boy felt his breath hitch when Taemin looked up, catching his eye and smiling. Unfortunately, the short glance up caused him to fail to see the big mud puddle on the rock in front of him. When he stepped into it, his foot landing hard in the sludge, it splashed up- dirtying his clothes and even splattering on his face.
The look on the younger boy’s face was so surprised that Key had to fight back the urge to laugh and he only did because the look of surprise soon turned into a scowl. Key smiled lightly.
“Taeminnie, c’mere,” he beckoned, “Want me to help you clean off?”
Taemin made the rest of the way over to him carefully, making a very conscious effort not to step into any more mud puddles. When he caught up to Key, he stopped, still looking sullen at having gotten himself covered in mud.
“Can I help you?” Key asked, wishing that he didn’t feel so breathless all of the sudden.
Taemin nodded, so Key reached up and wiped at the mud around the other’s eyes with his clean fingers, hoping to at least succeed in keeping the mud from getting into his eyes. But as he rubbed the mud off of the soft skin of Taemin’s eyelids, their close proximity had his heart pounding despite the fact that he knew it shouldn’t. He should not be reacting to Taemin like this.
Key’s fingers had slowed their work as he fought to get his breathing under control which caught Taemin’s attention- the younger shifting his eyes so he caught the other’s gaze. And Key felt himself completely freeze as he stared into the other’s big eyes that felt like they were staring right into his soul- like they knew what was going through his mind.
But before he could panic and try to act like his heart wasn’t in his throat at the way those eyes bore into his own, he felt a shift in the atmosphere- like the actual atmosphere around the earth was reacting to the moment with them- and the next thing he knew, Taemin was leaning towards him, or maybe he was leaning towards Taemin. Either way, he watched Taemin’s lips getting closer and closer, not even minding that there were a few flecks of dried mud on them.
Key closed his eyes, feeling the other’s lips press against his own softly. And it didn’t feel strange like he’d feared. It also didn’t feel wrong like he’d expected it to. It was soft and it was nice and he was sinking into it more and more with each second, feeling his mind spin and get a bit fuzzy.
It was like a dream from there- everything passing by in a blur of soft brushes of lips and intoxicating grazes of fingers until he found himself on his back on one of the flatter rocks, the cool surface of the stone seeping through his shirt to his spine.
But that didn’t matter because Taemin was working his pants off and it was almost like he was numb to the chilly air on his bare skin. Key’s eyes were drawn to Taemin’s face as he pushed his own pants down to his thighs, brows furrowed in concentration and big eyes dreamy and glassy, reflecting the strange calmness of the grey day.
When he finally pushed in, Key felt his body resist- muscles stretching and pulling as he arched his back, but the way it felt when Taemin had fully entered him washed the pain away like the water lapping at the stones; rinsing any silt and sand straight into the water until the stones were smooth to the touch.
Key felt himself falling apart as the younger boy moved in and out of his body- the pleasure rolling over his body and dulling his other senses besides the ones that felt the warm pull of the movement of the other’s hips.
He felt like the rest of the world had blurred- smeared together until it was only shades of grey- as he gasped, hearing his breathing and the sound of the water hitting the shore, while feeling Taemin’s hot puffs of breath against his neck.
They flowed together, rushing in one direction as their movements slid and twisted together until the pleasure wrapped around them and rushed into the tiny crevices between them until they were breathing it in like oxygen.
And then the world stood still for a moment before the waves crashed onto the rocks and Key felt himself spinning and losing himself in the tide as it washed over him- surging through his body with the intensity of a hurricane even though it was just like blood rushing through his veins and pounding in his ears.
The cool breeze was what pulled them back to the surface- reminded them where they were.
Key let his lips slide over Taemin’s, the softness contrasting sharply from the rock under the bumps of his spine.
And when he pulled back, Taemin’s eyes were shiny and filled with swirling emotions that left him breathless. But underneath it all was a calm that soothed him like the breeze that blew his hair, tickling against the nape of his neck.
As they made their way back up the hill, stepping from rock to rock carefully, Key finally felt the cold seep into his bones, sending a shiver rolling through his body. So he just grasped at Taemin’s hand tighter and moved a little faster, knowing that this would exist beyond the crashing waves and grey skies.
