a/n: My first B1A4 fic! It was a lot of fun to write- these boys are just too adorable. The MV filming scenes are based on MTV Match Up and Sandeul's responses for the camera are taken directly from the show. His inner thoughts are up for interpretation. And the last section is based on this
“Look at the soul mates,” Jinyoung said, smiling almost wistfully over his laptop.
Shinwoo and Gongchan looked up, glancing around to try to figure out what their leader was talking about. Finally they realized that Jinyoung was gazing into the kitchen where Sandeul was preparing lunch and Baro was bothering him.
“Them?” Gongchan asked with disbelief.
“I think Jaejoong-ssi and Yoochun-ssi from Dong Bang Shin Ki already have that title…” Shinwoo added.
“And aren’t soul mates supposed to be a little more…gentle?” Gongchan went on, watching as Sandeul threw a spoon at Baro after the latter made him spill whatever it was that he was pouring.
“They’re just a different kind of soul mates,” Jinyoung explained, eyes still on the pair.
Shinwoo and Gongchan exchanged a glance before going back to watching TV.
Sandeul kind of wished that he wasn’t being filmed while his makeup was being applied. That was kind of…girly, he thought. But he figured that he didn’t have much of a choice- the MTV Match Up crew sort of just showed up when they wanted.
And they were currently asking him whether he was jealous of Baro for getting the main role in their new music video for I Only Learned the Bad Things
. Truthfully, he felt many emotions in response to that decision- some of which he couldn’t seem to put his finger on. But jealously was probably in there somewhere, so he nodded, admitting that he was jealous.
Except there was so much more that he was feeling. Sure, when Baro had gotten the role, Sandeul had made a big fuss about it- whining to Baro and telling him that he was going to follow him there and take the role. But it was mostly because he hadn’t been prepared for it. He’d assumed that Jinyoung-hyung would have been the first to get a lead role- he was the leader and one of the oldest in the group, after all. Or maybe Shinwoo. Or even Gongchan. So he’d been surprised when they chose Baro.
And the fact that they were both born in ’92 and he hadn’t been chosen might have stung a little, though he understood that Baro was meant to be acting like a bad boyfriend due to his blood type in the video and therefore, it couldn’t have been any of the other members. But still.
“You don’t want to try acting?” the PD was asking him now.
“Me?” he responded, having been caught up in his own thoughts about Baro, “I feel like if I did it, it’d be really awkward to watch. I just want to observe him.”
And, as if to prove his own point, he flubbed the words.
Why was this whole thing making him so uneasy?
Of course, that was when the staff started handing around a smart phone with a video of Baro acting with the girl that had been chosen to play the role of his girlfriend.
Sandeul watched his band mate sit across from a pretty girl on the tiny screen, looking like he was on a date. It was so bizarre. That wasn’t Baro. That wasn’t how he acted. Baro would be joking and laughing and messing around- not just sitting there and staring into some girl’s eyes.
So he did the only thing he could think to do: he laughed. So loudly that he startled some of the staff members. But it was just so weird
Ten minutes later, he was handed the phone again.
Watching Baro smile shyly at this girl was sickening, he decided, amidst another outburst of laughter that had him rolling around against the wall.
“I can’t watch this!” he exclaimed, laughter dying down, “Sorry,” he said, handing the phone back to the noona it belonged to, “I’m really going to throw up watching this.”
The staff members laughed, surely thinking that it was a great cut to put into the show, but really, he felt a little like he was going to throw up.
“What,” Shinwoo deadpanned, sitting up in bed, “are they doing now.”
“Don’t care,” Gongchan whined, burying his face in his pillow.
“I’ll go check,” Jinyoung finally relented, sighing as he forced himself out of bed and out into the living room of their dorm.
The leader squinted against the bright light, watching as Baro and Sandeul attempted to stack their empty pop cans into a pyramid shape. It seemed that they had
been playing video games- the TV showed the main menu screen of some game- but apparently the excess of cans had been far too interesting.
“Can you stack loud, metal objects in the morning?” Jinyoung finally asked when neither of them seemed to notice his presence.
Sandeul flailed a bit, sending the pop can tower crashing to the floor, “Hyung, you scared me!” he exclaimed, hand over his heart and his eyes wide.
Baro groaned, leaning back into the couch cushions with his head in his hands as though Jinyoung had ruined their attempt at breaking a world record or something.
“You guys should go to bed,” Jinyoung said after neither of them made a move to get up- just staring forlornly at the now-demolished tower.
They both nodded and Jinyoung made his way back to bed.
Those two were a lot cuter when they weren’t interrupting his sleep.
Sandeul watched as Baro and the girl rehearsed their hug scene. It looked stupid, he decided. It was so unnatural and awkward. Whoever had come up with the idea for the hug scene should be fired, he thought.
It was fine earlier in the day when they had filmed the scene of all five of them preparing the “romantic” set up- that had seemed natural with all of them messing around like usual. And he’d gotten to show off his impressive lung capacity by blowing up balloons. All in all, it had gone well and he was happy with it.
But now…he cringed to watch Baro and the girl embracing.
When a camera showed up in front of him, he began to imitate Baro’s, in his opinion, awkward acting- over dramatically tiptoeing and then opening his arms wide as though he was waiting for someone to fall into them.
Was Baro really that eager to hug her? Sure it was all in the script, but…
. Did they really have to do that
“Every time he moves he makes a sound,” he complained to the camera, “She’s acting like she doesn’t know.”
Why were they still filming? Couldn’t they use one of the other clips they had? Surely Baro wasn’t going to get any better at sneaking up on the girl and she was just going to have to keep acting surprised.
It was too clichéd, Sandeul decided. Wouldn’t it be better if she just went with it? And since she could obviously hear him coming, she could turn around and make fun of him or something. That’s what he would do if he
were in the girl’s position.
Not that he would be, his mind immediately corrected. Not that he wanted
“I’m going crazy,” he admitted to the camera after they’d been filming for well over an hour. They probably assumed he meant that he was jealous that Baro got to be the lead and hug the pretty girl. Except he wasn’t so sure why he was going crazy.
But he’d do a better job than her. And Baro wouldn’t be acting so damn awkward. That much he was sure of.
And when the producer made some comment when they were finally
done filming the scene about them being lonely, Sandeul struggled to think of what he should say. Probably something about how he wanted to hug the girl. Or something. Eventually he flubbed his words again and gave up.
Gongchan followed Jinyoung’s gaze to the seat in front of them where Baro and Sandeul were sitting as they were driven back to their dorm. Although he was using the term ‘sitting’ a little loosely since they were slumped against each other, apparently fast asleep. Jinyoung was smiling to himself, probably thinking something about soul mates.
And actually, if he was honest, it was a pretty adorable sight. He probably wouldn’t have thought anything of it, but Jinyoung’s words from the other day were ringing in his head. He nudged Shinwoo who was staring absently out the window.
“Hmm?” the older boy hummed, looking at Gongchan and then following his line of sight to the sleeping pair.
“I think I can see what Jinyoung-hyung meant,” Gongchan whispered into Shinwoo’s ear, giggling a bit as he looked back at the dozing boys.
Shinwoo nodded thoughtfully, “I wonder if they have any idea,” he mused.
Gongchan shrugged, unconcerned, “They’ll notice eventually, right?”
“Probably,” Shinwoo agreed, going back to watching the scenery pass by.
“All hell will break loose the day that happens,” Jinyoung interjected, smiling with amusement at the maknae.
“How come?” Gongchan asked, imagining something akin to the music video they had just filmed.
“Because it’s them
,” Jinyoung replied, chuckling before he turned his attention to his ipod.
Gongchan considered that for a moment before smiling to himself and resting his head on Shinwoo’s shoulder. He honestly wasn’t sure if he hoped he was present to see it happen or far away and safe from the insanity.
The day would come eventually though, that was certain.
